This to me is one of the best “shooter” instructional video’s out there. I worked as a police officer for 8 years and a fugitive recovery agent for 16 years. I owned an armed private investigation and armed private security company for six years. I’ve carried a firearm for work or just personal protection for most of my adult life. I was a field training officer for the police department, and I was a state trainer for fugitive recovery, private investigation and private security, which included firearms training. I had an on duty LE shooting in 2005 where I shot at and hit a driver in a vehicle attempting to run over me, I was also on the move when I shot the driver. Three shots; 1 to the back of his head rest, 1 across the front of his face that impacted the passenger side windshield and 1 shot to his left back shoulder which wound up in his lung. I’ve tactically searched hundreds of buildings and residences for fugitives. I’ve always felt like this push about your shooting grip and stance has gone too far. There is so much focus on shooting stance and having this perfect grip, whatever they decide that is, now and while I agree that having a good platform may help, especially new shooters, it’s just unrealistic for most situations you’re going to find yourself in. From my own experience to the many hours of police shooting videos I have researched; shooting events are going to happen very fast and often in un-ideal places. You could be chasing someone, stepping out of your vehicle, searching a building, someone could be running at you, I mean the possibilities are endless. The odds that you will be able to assume this perfect stance and perfect grip on your gun is akin to only shooting at stationary paper targets – that’s not real world. The simple fact is you need to find the stance and grip that is comfortable for you. That allows you to shoot with control and accuracy. What is important is that you don’t slap your trigger or flex your hand when you pull the trigger, causing the shot to pull. The video demonstrates this perfectly.
You do you. You do what works for you, in the end that’s all that’s going to matter.
